Efftect of Enhanced Counseling Using Complementary Feeding Recommendation (CFR) Based on Linier Programming In Improving The Nutritional Status and Inflammation on Obese Children Aged 6 to 23 Months
Childhood obesity has become a public health burden due to serious health consequences. Recently, the ratio of omega-3 (n-3) and omega-6 (n-6) has shown optimize favorable effects leading to the improvement of obesity. Until now, no one dietary counseling explored the use of Linear Programming (LP) to create an optimized diet with n-3 and n-6 rich food as a part of dietary counseling in childhood obesity management program. This study will be conducted in two phases. Phase 1 aims to develop a complementary feeding recommendation (CFR) based on LP for obese children aged 6-23 months; enhanced counseling tools and techniques; valid and reliable semi-food frequency questionnaire (S-FFQ) for assessing n-3 intake. While phase 2 aims to investigate the effects of the developed enhanced counseling comprising CFR on nutritional status among obese children aged 6-23 months from slum area in two sub districts of East Jakarta.
Cross sectional study design will be used in developing CFR and S-FFQ and qualitative design is used to develop enhanced counseling tools and techniques. While randomized control trial study will be used in phase 2. In assessing the effect of enhanced counseling, 128 respondents will be involved, which is 64 respondents as intervention group who will get enhanced counseling which comprise CFR optimized n-3 and n-6 diet, while the other 64 respondents as control will get the standard counseling based on balance diet. Nutritional status, ratio of n-3 and n-6 levels, vitamin D status and caregiver's behavioral change score will be measured before and after 8 weeks of intervention.
